1. Tell us about your life journey, Daniel?
I’ve always loved going to the movies and I got my first digital camera when I was 12 years old. Even though I didn’t own my own video camera until I was in college, I actually started making videos with friends in high school for school projects and just for fun. I’d either borrow my friend’s cameras or we would all shoot it together and then I would edit the final projects using Sony Vegas.
In college, I studied Radio, Television, and Film and worked on a ton of different projects during that time. I bought a Canon T2i to start shooting my own stuff. I shot as much as I could from school projects to stupid rap parody videos with my roommates.
After college, I got into marketing and kept making videos on the side just for fun until I realized there was an opportunity to make money with those skills I’d built up over the years.
So I started doing freelance videography for some clients in Atlanta and one in Denver. In that time I ran through a lot of gear including switching cameras and lenses every few years…because I love gadgets! Today I primarily shoot on a Sony A7III and love it.
For me, video is all about capturing the essence of a moment to replay for people over and over again. On a personal side, it’s powerful to capture family memories on video because you can go back and watch those as often as you want to relive those memories in real-time.
On the business side, it’s about capturing the authenticity of a brand and conveying that through video in a way that communicates a lasting message to the audience. Those things get me out of bed in the morning to help myself and others create those exact moments for themselves and their customers.

2. How can a Brand build its influence through video content?
The trick is creating content consistently. Plenty of brands create video content, but they do it sporadically. The number one key to being successful in building an audience or influence with video content is consistency. Beyond that, if you’re only talking about yourself or your own brand in your videos…you’re 100% missing the point.
The point is to help your viewers and provide value to your audience. I’m sure your product or service does provide value, but talking about yourself is a great way to make sure people stop watching your videos.
Be consistent. Provide value beyond your own brand.

3. What is your thought process when it comes to the monetization of Videos?
Build a strategy that includes monetization, but do not let monetization be your primary focus.
Focus on building your influence and your audience first by providing tangible and, if possible, measurable value.
When you’ve built some influence and an audience then you can begin the process of monetizing whether that’s through ads, affiliate sales, or direct sales of your own products. But you cannot emphasize monetization before you’ve put in the work to build your influence.

4. Please share the story of creating your most successful Video?
This is an odd question because I don’t know what my most successful video is and the definition of successful can be very subjective to each person. And, to me, success may not necessarily coincide with the particular metrics of success like views and watch time.
Often my metrics for success are questions I ask myself about the projects or videos: Did I give this video 100% effort? What did I do well with this video? What can I improve and do better next time when shooting, editing, publishing, and promoting? Did I receive any feedback (good or bad) that I can use for my next video?
To me, getting honest answers to those questions is a success and will help me continue to improve and grow.

5. What tactical advice you would like to give to Video Marketers who want to start with Digital video content?
One of the biggest hurdles anyone faces when getting started with video is getting comfortable on camera. It’s so unnatural at first, but the only way to get better is to just do it. Force yourself in front of the camera and just talk.
You don’t ever have to publish those videos, but turn the camera on and record yourself talking. Get accustomed to being in front of the camera and knowing that it is on and recording you.
Then watch those videos. It’s going to be painful to watch at first. But, again, no one ever has to see these. Critique yourself and make notes on how you could better present yourself and your ideas and topics on camera. Then do it again until you feel you’re proficient enough to make a video public.
Get comfortable on camera and then start providing value for your audience. After that, you need to consistently publish content for at least a year. Listen to any feedback you get, tweak your videos, and make them better every time.
