1. Tell us about your life journey, Janet?
Since 1st grade, I knew I wanted to be a teacher. I loved school and loved teaching others. I achieved a degree in Elementary Education and couldn’t find a job in the field at that time.
As I was looking for a job outside my field, I answered an ad in the newspaper. I had no idea that my life would change that day. The company where I answered the ad I ended up working with the next 5 years.
It was in network marketing. The trainer of the company really made me look at the world different, hence starting my entrepreneur journey.
Since 1998, I have run my own business in online marketing, starting with selling on eBay.
My business transitioned to a social media focus in 2008 and here I am over 10 years later! I run an agency and train others, so I am still using my teaching skills…and that’s what I really love to do!
2. What prompted you to take up Social Media Marketing?
My social media marketing business sort of happened by accident. My husband ran a remodeling company and I was helping with his marketing in 2008.
One day I said, “Let’s set up a Facebook Page and put all your pictures on the page, instead of building an entire website.” Friends of fans would see his business back then (organic) and we realized Facebook really works!
So, I started approaching other businesses to set up a Facebook Page and landed a bunch of local business clients.
3. How can Businesses leverage video marketing for Facebook and Instagram lead generation?
Video has been one of the most consumed creative on the internet for many, many years. It is the most cost-effective form of Facebook and Instagram marketing.
It is fantastic for both brand awareness and lead generation. Video should be marketed both paid and organically.

4. According to you, what are the best practices Organizations should adopt when it comes to video marketing?
Top 2 best practices for video marketing:
1 – Edit the videos for each different platform. A video should be square-shaped for Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn. These should also include captions so people can read as well as listen.
Videos should be horizontal for YouTube and Vertical for IGTV.
2 – Use video for Top of Funnel (brand awareness). Then, create video viewer audiences of at least 10 second viewers to market your special offer ads.
Help your potential customers know, like and trust you before you try to sell anything to them. The best way to build this know, like and trust is VIDEO!

5. What advice would you NOT like to give a budding video marketer?
Don’t overthink your videos. Videos do not have to be perfect. You don’t need a $1,000+ video camera to create videos. Your smartphone is an amazing video creation tool.
Use your phone to create videos and JUST DO IT! The more authentic you are, the better.
Another option, depending on your business, is use apps or websites to create slideshow videos.
There are so many tools out there. Some of my favorites are Wave.video, Animoto, Adobe Spark, Clipomatic and Lumyer.
